Merton Heritage Discovery Day, which will be taking place at Merton Civic Centre and Morden Library on Saturday 21 August from 12 noon to 4.30pm.
This event is a showcase for our borough’s rich and varied history and has gone from strength to strength since it was first launched in 2014. This year’s event will feature local history talks, displays, film, children’s crafts, heritage trails, a local quiz, book signing and stalls from Merton’s many museums, local history and community groups. We will also be hosting the F A Cup and players from Wimbledon F C’s historic 1963 and 1988 cup winning teams, in addition to an historic meeting of Wandle and Haydon womble – the Wimbledon FC and AFC Wimbledon mascots.
Public safety will be paramount, so we have expanded the event venue to include the council chamber, café floor, part of Merton link and the forecourt to allow for extra spacing. We will also be encouraging the wearing of face coverings and distancing, especially at busy times, in addition to the usual one way travel, extra cleaning and the use of hand sanitiser.
- The Discovery Day will be open access as usual but in the interests of covid safety, all our talks, children’s activities and the FA Cup/player event must be pre-booked via Eventbrite.co.uk to control numbers.
